A couple fixes for folks outside the US (proper international handling of dates like 2/3/2009, and military time support). Toned down the logo color a bit more. Added “Calendar QuickChange”, which allows you to switch between calendars by typing a few characters in the calendar name. Had some feedback from a user with 14 calendars, saying it took forever to click through the list on the upper right. I like this feature a lot, and find myself using it even with my four calendars.

Product page is here, where you can download the widget.

(Desktop app will be coming soon, folks!)

Looks like LifeHacker (awesome site, BTW) ran a nice article on QuickCal today. Generated a lot of traffic. I’ve gotten a FLOOD of great comments, suggestions, etc – so I figure I would take some time and address what I’ll be working on next, which aligns pretty close to what most of you are asking about.

#1 item – a version of the app that isn’t a dashboard widget. Popup window that would be launched by a hotkey combination. I actually started working on this a few months ago, not sure why I didn’t finish it up. Maybe not enough people asking for it, until today. ;-)

Other items include location support (lunch at burger king), being able to specify which calendar to use with text (todo – status report [work]), … and some work on internationalization issues.

For everyone who donated a few bucks for the beer fund – thank you!

QuickCal 1.1 is now released (product page here, direct download link here). This version is mainly a look-and-feel release, as I think I’ve finally made a version that isn’t horribly tacky. I hope so.

I’ve also implemented a ‘help’ system of sorts, where you’re given hints and tips that rotate around (you can also force new hints by clicking on the gray part of the widget).

Also, Apple fixed their iCal bug – so now events will show up in real-time again as you enter them. Thanks Apple engineers!

Feedback welcome!!! Here’s a quick screen grab:

Grab the latest HERE! The new version really is starting to get close to a 1.0, as I’ve added:

  • Live preview – no more hoping this widget understands you when you hit submit, now you’ll see what it’s seeing in real-time
  • MANY bug fixes
  • Widget will check for new versions every 48 hours

I thought it would be a good thing to start to learn Mac OS development… This is my first project. It allows you to create events in iCal though a simple natural language interface. “Doctor tomorrow at noon”, “Lunch w/ Jim next wednesday at 10:30 for 2 hours”, “Vacation monday through friday”, “Read a book 10/24/2008 from 1:30pm to 3:15pm”

Check it out (including demos, screenshots, …)!
